1 Lady Macbeth – From the Script
Out, damned spot! Out, I say!—One, two. Why, then, ’tis time to do ’t. Hell is murky!—Fie, my lord, fie! A soldier, and afeard? What need we fear who knows it, when none can call our power to account?—Yet who would have thought the old man to have had so much blood in him.

Macbeth 5:1

2 Lady Macbeth – At the Festival
It did not take long for the fledgling Utah Shakespeare Festival to add  “The Scottish Tragedy” to their repertoire, joining Twelfth Night and A Midsummer Night’s Dream in the summer season of 1964.  Thirteen company members returned for their 3rd consecutive season with the upstart festival including Julie Ann Farrer, from Beaver Utah, who was cast as Lady Macbeth.  The supportive and creative atmosphere that infuses the festival has been a hallmark from its earliest days, and as with Ms. Farrer, it continues to inspire past performers, technicians, directors and designers to return to Cedar City for multiple seasons throughout their careers.

3 Lady Macbeth – Artist: Stanley J. Watts
This sculpture was created by nationally recognized artist Stanley J. Watts.  After attending Utah State University for a year, Watts continued his training under the tutelage of noted Salt Lake City sculptor Dr. Avard Fairbanks.   Watts is best known for his bronze sculptures celebrating famous figures in American history including one of George Washington located near the revolutionary encampment at Valley Forge and one of Abraham Lincoln near the Civil War battlefield in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

Mr Watts created several other characters in the Pedersen Shakespeare Character Garden.  If you would like to see an additional piece not situated here, his whimsical statue of Titania from A Midsummer Night’s Dream is just a short walk away, welcoming visitors to the west entrance of the Randall L Jones Theatre.
