1 Vietnam War Memorial – “Some Gave All”
This memorial to Vietnam veterans was unveiled on September 6, 2008. A much anticipated addition to the Rotary Centennial Veterans Park the dedication ceremony was attended by many local, regional and national dignitaries including, Rudi Gresham, senior adviser to the secretary of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Among the important local participants were veterans from the Paiute Indian Tribe of Utah and Cheryl German-Chung, a veteran and nurse at Cedar City’s Valley View Medical Center.  The central sculpture entitled, “Some Gave All” echoes the message of the paving bricks, each bearing the name of a local soldier who lost their life in the Vietnam War

Muir’s early interest in history and the military was reinforced by his experiences as a cadet tata the United States Military Academy at West Point. Ultimately settling in Sedona, Arizona, Mr. Muir there embarked on a full-time career in sculpting, initially specializing in historical subjects. In 1990 he began to expand his work to include contemporary subjects and accepting commissions in lifesize and monumental sculpture.  Of this specific piece he said,

“Always inspired by the song lyrics “all gave some, but some gave all,” along with the memories of friends and classmates and their sacrifices, on Memorial Day I was moved to create this sculpture as my own humble tribute honoring courageous devotion to the ideal of human liberty.”
