King Lear (2022)
King Lear is driven mad after he asks for proof of love from his daughters. Pain, violence and war follows his request until he loses everything.
Dividing the Kingdom
King Lear, of Britain, announces his plan to divide the kingdom between his three daughters. He orders his daughters to say which loves him the most, promising to give the greatest part to that daughter.
Lear Gone Mad
Following the blinding of Gloucester, King Lear is losing his memory. Lear enters 'fantastically dressed with wild flowers'. Gloucester recognizes the King's voice, and the blind Gloucester and the mad Lear struggle to remember each other.
Blinding of Gloucester
Taunted by Cornwall, Gloucester is interrogated while Regan plucks his beard. Cornwall plucks out Gloucester's eyes. Regan throws Gloucester out of his own home, blind and bleeding to 'smell his way to Dover'.
Poor Tom
Edgar, son of Gloucester, and only legitimate heir, must flee and hide from his father when he comes under suspicion of attempting to kill his father. After his father is blinded, Edgar, not Poor Tom, becomes his father's guide.
Cordelia's Death
Lear enters with Cordelia dead in his arms. Lear still clings to the hope that she is alive. Unable to accept Cordelia's death, Lear believes she is still breathing, and at that moment dies.
